Morocco's Telecom Market Soars: 59.8 Million Subscribers and Counting
Morocco's mobile phone market expanded by 5% in the first half of 2024, reaching 56.8 million subscribers.
Morocco's telecommunications sector has continued its impressive growth trajectory in the first half of 2024, highlighting the country's digital transformation.
According to the latest data released by the Directorate of Studies and Financial Forecasts (DEPF), the total subscriber base has reached a remarkable 59.8 million, marking a substantial 5.2% increase compared to the same period last year.
The primary contributor to this expansion is the mobile phone market, which has grown steadily by 5%, bringing the number of mobile subscribers to 56.8 million. This translates to a penetration rate of 152.1%, indicating that there is, on average, more than one mobile subscription per inhabitant. The rate was 146.2% a year earlier and 127.1% at the end of June 2019.
Despite the growing popularity of mobile technology, fixed-line subscriptions have increased by 7.6% to reach 2.9 million.
The internet subscriber base has also witnessed a substantial surge, surpassing 39.1 million with a growth rate of 6.9%. This impressive expansion has propelled the penetration rate to an impressive 104.8% at the end of June 2024.
Morocco's telecommunications sector is not only expanding but also diversifying, with both mobile and fixed-line services showing robust growth. The country's digital transformation is evident in the increasing number of internet subscribers, reflecting a growing digital literacy and the adoption of modern communication technologies.
This growth is a testament to Morocco's strategic investments in telecommunications infrastructure and its commitment to bridging the digital divide. As the sector continues to flourish, it is expected to drive further economic growth and innovation, positioning Morocco as a key player in the global digital landscape.
With over 59.8 million subscribers, Morocco's telecom market is poised for even greater advancements, offering new opportunities for businesses and enhancing the quality of life for its citizens. The future looks promising as the country continues to embrace digital technologies and foster a connected society.
